FAQ's
What is the registration deadline?
August 1, 2009. Registration after August 1 may still be possible but a $50 administrative fee would apply.
Does this course offer university credit?
Not at this time. The course is intended for personal development. It provides an opportunity for students to learn about epidemiology and determine if they wish to pursue further study in this field. Such study can be pursued through regular university course such as those offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Will there be an examination or other type of evaluation?
No. The course has no formal evaluation component.
A couple of years ago, a student mentioned that there had been an on-line discussion. Why is it not being offered this year?
In 2007, I set-up a course web site as a trial. This site included a Discussion Forum where students could ask questions before, during and after the course. However, we realized that the course load was too great for students to be able to use the Forum during the course. Other than posting an 'introduction' message before the course, no other messages were posted to the Forum. I concluded that the forum was not serving a useful function and so am not offering it this year. If you believe that it would be a useful additional for future years, please provide feedback on the course evaluation form.
Where is Roger Guindon Hall and how do I get there?
Roger Guidon Hall is the main health sciences teaching building for the University of Ottawa. It is not located on the main campus. Rather, it is in a health sciences complex with the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus), the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ottawa Rehabilitation Hospital. It is located on Smyth Rd, near Alta Vista Rd. Car access is off Smyth Rd (the site is easily found on Mapquest, Google Maps or similar sites). OCTranspo has buses which stop directly in front of the building. You could take either the 106 or 16.
